Johor Bahru District is a district located within the state of Johor.
The main urbanization center & administrative center of the district is located in the metropolitan center of Johor Bahru or better known as Tanjung Puteri for the locals and residents of the district. Tanjung Puteri is located in the City Parish of Johor Bahru. The City Parish of Johor Bahru is the most populated and populous district in the area.
The District of Johor Bahru is divided into three local authorities (pihak berkuasa tempatan, PBT) namely the Johor Bahru City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru, MBJB) or formerly known as the Johor Bahru Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Johor Bahru, MPJB), Iskandar Puteri City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri, MBIP) or previously known as the Johor Bahru Municipal Council. Central (Majlis Perbandaran Johor Bahru Tengah, MPJBT) or previously known as the Central Johor Bahru District Council (Majlis Daerah Johor Bahru Tengah, MDJBT) and another is the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Pasir Gudang, MPPG) or formerly known as the Pasir Gudang Local Authority (Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan Pasir Gudang, PBTPG).
There have been rumors that plans for the next few years to prepare for the upgrading of local authorities (pihak berkuasa tempatan, PBT) in which the Johor Bahru City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru, MBJB) will be upgraded to the Johor Bahru City Hall (Dewan Bandaraya Johor Bahru, DBJB) and the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Pasir Gudang, MPPG) will be upgraded to the Pasir Gudang City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Pasir Gudang, MBPG). There are rumors that there is a proposal to create a new local authority (pihak berkuasa tempatan, PBT) located in the northern part of the district, Skudai, which will be separated by the Iskandar Puteri City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri, MBIP) by administering two parishes, namely Tebrau and Pulai. Rumors of a new local authority (pihak berkuasa tempatan, PBT) proposal to be created in the area are likely to be named Skudai Municipal Council (Majlis Perbandaran Skudai, MPSku).

The Johor Bahru Metropolitan Center or Tanjung Puteri is experiencing rapid economic growth compared to other areas in the district in line with its role as the urbanization center, major economy and administration in the district and even for the state and even for the South West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Rapid economic growth also led to rapid and sustained population growth.
