As the second largest city in Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur... the cosmopolitan city of Johor Bahru (Tanjung Puteri) is indeed known as an area with many malls compared to other urbanization areas in the state. It can be said that almost every zone (subparish), parish and every local authority area in the Johor Bahru district has at least one mall.
At the time this blogpost was being typed... the largest mall in the district and state was Southkey Mid Valley Megamall which is located near Kampung Bakar Batu, Taman Iskandar & Bukit Pasir Palace (Johor Crown Prince Palace).
The first mall in the cosmopolitan city of Johor Bahru (Tanjung Puteri) and even the first in the district and state is the KOMTAR Johor Bahru Plaza which opened and started operating in 1979 at Jalan Wong Ah Fook. KOMTAR Johor Bahru Plaza is managed by the Johor Corporation or better known as JCorp for short.
In 1985... there was a private non-government-owned / government-linked company (GLC) opening and operating a mall in Jalan Dato 'Sulaiman, Taman Abad (also known as Taman Century) which was named Holiday Plaza. Although Holiday Plaza mall is the second mall in Johor Bahru district and even in the state of Johor after KOMTAR Johor Bahru Plaza but Holiday Plaza mall is the first completely private mall in Johor Bahru district and even the first in this state of Johor. Holiday Plaza Mall is a mall owned and managed by Enra Group Berhad.
From a few years to several years later after the operation of KOMTAR Johor Bahru Plaza mall and Holiday Plaza mall... the number of new malls opened and operating around Johor Bahru district showed a good increase.
If before... Johor Bahru district residents who wanted to go to the mall... they would go to the city center (Tanjung Puteri) to go sightseeing and shopping at the mall but now no longer because almost every zone (subparish), parish, subdistrict and local authority areas already have at least one mall. The number of large malls also showed a very good increase in proportion to the population and economic strength of the area adjacent to Singapore. Among the large malls available in the Johor Bahru district at the time this blogpost is being typed are Southkey Mid Valley Mega Mall, Paradigm Mall, AEON Mall Tebrau City, AEON Mall Bukit Indah, Toppen Mall Tebrau, Sunway Big Box Retail Park Iskandar Puteri, Belletime Danga Bay, City Square & R&F Mall.
Looking at the population of the cosmopolitan city of Johor Bahru (Tanjung Puteri) and even this growing district and even the growing purchasing power... in the opinion of the author of this blog... it is time for the cosmopolitan city of Johor Bahru (Tanjung Puteri) and this district have the first Times Square mall in the cosmopolitan city of Johor Bahru (Tanjung Puteri) and this district so that residents of Johor Bahru, Johor and even most citizens of the Republic of Singapore can experience new shopping or just go shopping at the mall alone , with family or friends.
Anyway... the author of this blog hopes that this matter will become real one day in the future.
Is Johor Bahru ready for Times Square?...
